Hanging Interior Doors
Bi fold doors work well in closets too.
Hanging interior doors. If you re setting your door into adjoining rooms that ll be carpeted later you can hold both jamb sides 3 8 in. Basically it requires some basic chisel skills. Closet doors keep your storage boxes and hanging clothes out of sight.
Many doors are made from solid medium density fiberboard mdf or are so called solid core doors. If you re installing a door on an unfinished floor and need space under the jambs for carpet just rest the jambs on temporary blocks while you re hanging the door. I use 3 x 75mm hinges when hanging doors made of solid pine or another softwood.
When hanging heavy exterior doors fire check doors hardwood doors or doors in a bathroom airing cupboard for example you should mark a line and position for a third hinge in the center of the door and frame as well. Use only one screw so you can make adjustments. If the doors i m hanging are hardwood like oak three high quality 75mm or 100mm hinges are usually sufficient depending on the thickness weight.
Once all the hinge positions are marked remove the door from the lining place it in the saddle and wedge it hinge side up. Position your chisel about 45 degrees whilst doing this. Use blocks to level jamb bottoms.
Check the door opens and closes easily. The good thing about doors these days is that you don t have to spring for the expense of solid wood to get its look and feel. When learning how to hang an interior door this is probably the most complicated part.
Using a sharp chisel about 1 inch in width chisel a series of 1mm deep notches. You can use any interior door as a closet door. You should also make sure to cut the bottom of the door by half an inch more than the space between the top of the door and the jamb.
