Place a bracket behind each of the three hinges. Use shims on the side of the door with the hinges to remove the gaps between the trimmer stud and the door frame. To adjust it grab the casing and move the jamb by hand.
Either way to trim a door you need to bridge the gap between the door jamb the frame from on which the door is hinged and where the latch engages and the wall. This is done with molding called casing. Nail the trim to the jamb and studs.
Remove the plywood cut the shape with a jigsaw and transfer the shape to the bottom of the jamb. To install set the corner pieces on the sill then place the middle piece over top. Similarly if you are right handed.
Then install the other 3 brackets along the other side of the door frame directly across from the first 3 brackets that you ve already installed. Have another person hold the pre hung door in place while you install wooden shims where necessary. Repeat with other 2 brackets along the hinge side of the door.
Attach the remaining three brackets on the the other side of the jamb. Some kits come in three pieces to better fit the opening. Attach 6 door installation brackets to the outside of the door jamb the wood frame to which the door comes pre attached.
